Design Process... Initial Consultation

Happy Friday! 

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week! 

Since Sweet Grass has announced for the month of June that I will be offering free one-hour consultations to everyone I thought it would be informative to my followers if I explained in depth the complete design process. 

I think its important to engage prospective clients in the details of the project process and how designers work. 

So each new blog post will introduce a design phase to the project for those who have not worked with a designer in the past.

First Phase... 

"The Initial Consultation" 

The initial consultation is the first step of the design process when working with an interior designer. This is the first official meeting between the client and designer. This is a great time for the client to make sure the designer is a good fit for them and vice versa.

Normally the initial consultation is held at the site of the space, but if not the designer will ask the client to bring images of the space to them for the initial consultation. The meeting will start with a walk through of the space or look through the collection of images the client brought.

After the initial walk through of the space, the client and designer will converse about the client's specific details for the project. Discussion on the functions of the space are defined, as well as any specific requirements the client wants to solve during the design process. This is the chance for the designer to make a "to be designed" list for the specific project. It is important that the designer takes note of all specific needs the client addresses during this initial meeting.

By the end of the initial consultation, the designer and client have started to build a relationship which is very important. "A great design is one that harmonizes with the client's inner self, and enhances their lifestyle."

Following this meeting, the designer gives the client a proposal regarding terms and scope of work that were discussed during the meeting. This proposal includes design fees and an outline of products the designer suggests for the space. This is a good opportunity for the client to read specifically the details the designer feels is fit for the project.

The next step in the design process is the schematic design phase. I will engage on this more specifically in the next post. So stay tuned in to read more!

These trends set the mood for the interior space as well as a specific clothing style. The connection trends have in interior and fashion design has become an interesting concept to myself as a designer.

Why Hire An Interior Designer?

Happy Friday Everyone!

This week I thought I would educate everyone on the interior design industry.

The difference between “design” and “decorate” is one of the most common misunderstandings in the industry.

Both professions differ in critical ways. A “designer” applies creative and technical solutions within a space that are functional and beneficial to the clients quality of life. An interior designer has the education and experience to perform services to clients that a decorator cannot provide. There is also an examination interior designers must take after receiving two years of experience in the professional world.

A “decorator” works primarily with surface decorations that include furnishings, paint, and fabrics. They can also be self taught and have no formal schooling.

Interior Design as a profession didn’t evolve until after World War II. It was previously seen as playing a secondary role to architecture.

The most important reason to hire a professional interior designer is to save you time and simplify your life when deciding on selections for your space.

We can help you define and enhance your style by making decisions for your space that reflect who you are as a person as well as your specific needs for functionality.
